1930’s Influence

Islamic Fashion Inspiration: Designers find vintage influence
New Vintage
I love the look of the 1920’s and 1930’s. It speaks of glamour and feminine elegance without figure hugging silhouettes. The loose, dropped waist is the perfect style for hijabi’s. We also start to see a lot of bias cutting and experimentation with grain line thanks to Madeleine Vionnet who was a pioneer of the method which gives fabric movement.
Fluid Fringing
This season designers such as Alberta Ferretti have revisited the prohibition era with fringing, straight silhouettes and a touch of glam. Ferretti in particular has stayed true to the original appeal with flapper dresses reinvented for 2009.

Modest shapes: 1930's glamour by Burberry Prorsum
Modest Glamour
At Marc by Marc Jacobs and Burberry we saw a much more casual approach to this trend. Day dresses were still glamorous but when teamed with masculine trenches there was just a hint at the sleek femininity beneath. This contrast in styles helped make the designs relevant and edgy.

Bugsy Malone
I’ve been in love with the look ever since watching Bugsy Malone. They were very clever with the wardrobe. Being kids they couldn’t be over sexy or revealing, and this era is full of inspiration allowing you to feel graceful and girly without putting your body on show.
