Coming up Roses

Islamic fashion: pretty cut-out florals make a beautiful change to flat print
Cut-out Creations
Spring was all over the catwalks (even if the weather took a while to catch up). With laser cut floral details putting a modern twist on traditional prints. This technique is relatively new, it allows intricate shapes to be cut from even the finest of fabrics which allows designers a lot more freedom. I love the texture and creation of shadows that change as you move through the light.
Mixed Bouquet
Dolce and Gabbana, Temperley London, and Roberto Cavalli took the same premis but the results were very different.

Hijabi Style: A simple white palette let the blossoms make their own impact
The cutting room
Cavalli took the paper-cut look and used it on leather making regimented patterns all over the garment. Temperley used the technique on very fine fabrics creating much softer lines, she also bunched the detailing in one area creating a bouquet effect. Dolce and Gabbana took the most literal approach to incorporating florals. With very detailed individual flowers placed in a more random way they created an organic ‘garment garden’. They vary in wearability but there are elements in all of them that can make any outfit bloomin’ marvellous (sorry, that was too tempting)
