Hijab for the heat

Feeling Sunny

Summer Islamic dresses are always a bit tricky to get right comfort wise. It’s been surprisingly sunny the last few days, so I’ve had the opportunity to dig out my summer wardrobe. I made this last year, the technique I used was draping on the stand. I like the length of it, and being able to wear trousers underneath it makes it feel more comfortable and practical to me.

Custom Muslimah

Muslimah’s don’t have a great choice on the high-street in summer (with the exception of Maxi dresses). I have to say too that my summer wardrobe is looking a bit thin on the ground. I think I’m going to explore cheap ways to stay cool (before the weather changes again!). I’m thinking customising big white t-shirts into dresses, seeing what charity shops have to offer for me to chop and change. Obviously I’ll let you in on the processes and results!

The details

The abaya is made in lightweight jersey fabric, you can see more clearly in the image above that there is a plaited collar which extends and crosses over finishing under the bust on the inside. This little trick lets the outside fabric drape away from the body whilst helping the garment to maintain its shape. I designed something similar for Maysaa, but I guess you’ll have to wait and see what that looks like. I hope, inshAllah, that you like it as much as I do!

alhamdulillah!
This comes at a perfect time when the temperature just spiked up yesterday to an all time high.

Can’t wait until Maysaa officially ‘opens’ :D

Hey Hana,

I absolutely love your blog and I’m practically in tears because I’ve been looking for something like this for a really long time. I absolutely cannot wait until Maysaa’s official opening! PS. I’d love to know which part of the “west” you live in!?

Cheers,
Nadia
