Modest Style Statement

Time for the modest style trend that can work wonders for Hijabi girls. If you saw the previous post and thought ‘I love the look, but it’s a bit tame’ then this post is just for you! If you’re still working out how to pull off the look then these designers give a whole lot of inspiration. Check out the upside-down tiers from Kai Kühne!

Modest fashion layers

Trend Setters

Us Muslimah’s may have worn tiers without ever realising it. It’s just layering that has been done for you, instead of wearing a top over a skirt over trousers you can rock the layered look with one tiered maxi dress, tunic or skirt. The best thing is that even if you add more layers (to lengthen a skirt or dress) it will look seamless. Just choose colours in the same palette or go for contrast like the Roksanda Ilincic maxi dress above, then top it all off with a headscarf.

Dear Hana,
I’m a Italian sister who, as you can guess, wears hijab. I was very impressed by your site (which I found through BBC!) as I am striving to wear according to the Islamic code but peeping at Italian fashion and I can’t combine the two properly. I think your ideas and styles are very nice, but I also think I have difficulties in taking inspiration from it for myself as I’m not thin as you so I worry for example maxy dresses would still be above the lines for me. Can you help me sister?
Thank you a lot!!!
Silvia, Rome.

Assalamualaikum Silivia,

If you are more curvier, then try wearing a maxi dress that:
a) is not made of clingy materials
b) is mostly pattered with bold colors on the bottom, if you are bigger on top
c) is a-lined to deemphasize the hips, if you are wider around the hips
d) is layered with a jacket, cardigan, or a collared shirt that’s unbuttoned
e) is solid, neutral or dark in color paired with accessories that are vibrant, chunky
f) has ruffles, pleats, colorful and bold patterns in the areas that is the slimmest

And don’t forget the heels =)). They always help to elongate the silhouette. Hope that helped!
