Taking up a months residency in a studio in my old primary school (now artists studios).

Now I walk to school every day, like when I was eight.

I’m going to be making lots of new things, in fact, only new things, and lots of them.

I like talking in statements now, that’s new too.

Finally just about got all of myself in one timezone, so this is a bit of a retrospective.

This dress was adapted from a pattern I’d been working on for another project.  I had some beautiful batik gifted from a friend and I was on a bit of a ‘make something’ kick, so one way or another something was going to get made.

Thankfully I had the perfect farewell event to wear it to (farewell to it being hot enough to wear a cotton dress, farewell to bright print not looking out of place amidst a sea of grey).  The lovely girls at Ammara Hijabi invited me to the ‘Samaira’ Batik fashion show which was a pretty stellar way to end a couple of months out there very far away in Malaysia.

The mixed selection of images is in honour of me not bringing my camera, but thanks to you guys for having foresight where I had none.

Today I get to tell you a story all about how.. no wait, that’s the beginning of a different story.  My story is the tale of two beautiful things, the newest of the new at Maysaa.com, and how they can be your beautiful things if you hurry.

We’ve only a limited number of these pieces, and they are fast being picked up, so although the pre-order is from now now now until 15th May we can’t guarantee that we’ll still have these items until the end of the pre-order. When they’re gone, they’re gone (and I’d much rather they go to you!).

The Things

Polka Dot Trousers//__ I’m lying on the sofa in an old shirt, watching black and white pictures move on a screen, thinking ‘I want that, that’s doable right? A time when girls were ‘dressing down’ in beautifully cut shirts and dresses, and track pants were but a glimmer in an elastane dream. I can find a way to work this timeless elegance into my wardrobe.’ And that’s me gone, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck and continuing their Roman Holiday while I am in imaginings of polkadots and soft tailoring.

Drape Jersey Maxi Skirt//__ Jersey has got this drape to it, a satisfyingly heavy ripple that moves with a swing when you walk.  Draping the skirt on the stand, it sort of became this waterfall front, fluid and soft (softer than soft in my favourite viscose jersey), and given its edge(s) with braiding details and gold eyelets.  The colour is much needed, green and Spring-like and singing it’s heart out about newness.  It feels beautiful to wear, it feels the way I hoped it would, like walking through a rippling jersey pool with all the beautiful things cascading around your feet.

The pre-order also includes all the printed tees for Southeast Asia (which are for sale as normal in UK and rest of the world), and as a cherry on top of this already delectable cake we’re bringing back the black snood and chiffon scarf for pre-order!

A retrospective look at the merriment that was had at our RE-WORK! sessions last month.  It was incredible meeting (and re-meeting) these lovely ladies, and my robot hand and I were very proud of the many beautiful things that were made by the work-ettes.

I’ve jumbled the photos together somewhat, but we were either making or printing or up-cycling or styling and having a stellar time regardless.

I’ve realised the thing that informs what I wear of a day is mostly what I’ve been listening to that morning.  It’s the sort of thing that creeps into your subconscious and guides hands as they peruse a wardrobe rail.  It’s hardly ever glaringly obvious, but after a morning of Etta James it was only ever going to be vintage (and faux vintage Topshop).

This is an unofficial tribute to the MAYSAA tees which are NOW ON SALE in the UK.  We’ll be starting our countdown to their release in Southeast Asia very soon, so keep checking back here, and twitter, Facebook too. Also an excuse to pick up my camera (I know, it’s been a while), and cut a video.

I love these t-shirts very much.  They’ve been individually hand screen printed close by my home town.  The inks are water based, so are eco-friendly, and look damn good too.  It also means each one will have it’s own little quirks that make them all the more loveable.
