Behind The Scenes
A Shoot
Once upon a time in Malaysia, we shot for the MAYSAA scarves. If you’ve ever wondered what happens if you (a.k.a. guy with camera, a.k.a. Faris off of Ikanpaos Kolektif) film all access, and then you (a.k.a. I) edit it into just under a minute of behind the scenes footage, well wonder no more. This is exactly that.
Continuing thanks to Faris, Bibo, Daya, Shareeta, and the rest of the gang.
FRESH
A New Year
I hope you are all happy in the newness of another year. As timezones catch up and we’re all stood in January feeling a little perplexed that a year of much goings on has lost out to a year where anything could happen. MAYSAA has some newness that is slightly alluded to in this picture, though more shall be revealed soon. Resolutions or not, this year, stuff will happen people!
p.s. Thanks for all the lovely birthday messages yesterday.
p.p.s. Malaysia, I’ll be with you in a week.

Fade Out
Again
The reason I love denim is texture, indigo in varying degrees of come-off-ness (it’s a word). I actually like putting jeans in the wash, it’s quite exciting seeing what’s faded, where colour has given out to creases and seams. It’s also a great carrier for most any other fabric, so you can get a bit lost in textures and print and have it look interesting rather than a big old mess. Having said that, when it’s (and it sometimes is) done wrong, it can be a little tragic. But if you’re going to experiment, it’s a good place to start.
I own three denim shirts, two of them are vintage, all of them are mens. Hardy stuff is denim.
p.s. Bonus points for spotting the lyrics in the title- subtitle. Minus points for me for copying.
p.p.s. This was from a set of styling test shots which is why I am utterly un-madeup. That’s the for why of my pallor.
LIVE FASHION / LOVE MUSIC [13/12/10]
The Anniversary
One year ago today saw the launch of Maysaa in Malaysia, saw Yuna giving a stunning set, saw models adorned in new collection Maysaa. It seems fitting that it be now, when a few little pipe-lined projects are just on the cusp of release, I get to show you this breathtaking little minute of all that happened.
This bit of genius was the work of Sling, and I cannot tell you how evocative it is of being there, in the dark, with the music playing competing beats against my own racing heart, a nervousness swimming around inside of me. I can all but feel the steam (if it weren’t so ridiculously cold over here) from hours of pressing fabric.
All I can say is thank you, to all that came, all that made it happen, all who captured it. Thank you, thank you Sling for taking me back there. You can check out Sling’s other work here (I highly recommend that you do). There will be future collaborations for sure.
For further nostalgia click here for part I and here for part II
(I just read part II and all of a sudden I am back in Malaysia with a head full of chewing gum and a stomach full of butterflies. Flash-back.)
Further thanks to
Yuna for being insanely talented (congrats on MTV Iggy, it was wonderful, I was over excited)
Ahmad Faris (of ikanpaos kolektif), Zul Luey and team for every moment of support and capturing it all
Shah Azman for the crazy good projection mapping which I finally got to see HERE
Brush & Blush for the Hair/Make up
Poya for the beautiful jewellery
And of course Puteri and the MAYSAA team, without whom I would have lost my mind
Maysaa x SNOWMINE
It’s Time
I’ve been waiting patiently (very patiently) to release these videos. You know, if you’re going to do a product video, do it the rightest. Get the most excellent talent there is and simmer until some wondrous thing appears.

And so to the talent

MUSIC
Well I’m not going to let this one pass you by. The incredible Snowmine have such a textural sound, wonderful melodies and lyrics (that make their way into dreams I’ve had). You can experience the whole album online, but why stop there when the genius of bandcamp ‘name your price’ allows you to download the full album and other tracks for however much you care to spend. Start by downloading this free track NERVOUS (I’ll wait while you go do that).
They were kind enough to collaborate with us on this little video, and after much agonising deliberation I chose ‘The Hill’ off of their album LAMINATE PET ANIMAL. For those of you who know how indecisive I am you can imagine this was no small achievement.
I also spent the rest of the day in a reverent daze watching their Shaking Through episodes. If you’re a fan of music, actual any music, I guarantee you’ll find this fascinating. Weathervane Music do some incredible things. Watch other episodes HERE (I’m already smugly on their mailing list ‘yes, please send me brilliance’)
And if like me you still can’t get enough of Snowmine then follow them on TWITTER and like them on FACEBOOK (you’d be in good company)
p.s. I’m pretty much decided, I’m going to move to Brooklyn. I have, over the past few months, accrued some addiction to Brooklyn based music and am through fighting it. Goodbye rest of the world, I will miss you muchly.
