Headscarf and heels
Just a couple of quick snaps of me while I was trying to sort out what to wear for a blog photo session. I love my vintage jumpsuit! You shall see the shots in full over the coming weeks, but here is a little preview. Because let’s face it, I haven’t exactly been on top of blogging recently!
Maysaa Magazine Photoshoot 1
Behind the Scenes
Caught on Camera
Have a looky at the team on set at the latest photo shoot for the Maysaa Magazine. We worked with the amazing Dominic Clarke, I completely fell in love with his work, and we ended up with some stunning shots. The lovely Justina was on hair and make-up, so happy we got to work with her again, she’s got skills! Our lovely models from elite, my hubby (who took most of these pictures) and moi! And of course, for the morning we were joined by the awesome Jerome Taylor from The Independent and his photographer.
Looks I love
Imani
Style Statement
Thanks for all the beautiful pictures sent in, you really are a bunch of hotties! I shall get round to posting them, starting with this awesome look. I love Imani’s styling, and those trousers are amazing! Check out her lookbook page here
Leather Rocks
Style Fusion
juxta-pose
As I may have mentioned I am on the hunt for the perfect leather jacket, although it’s kind of on hold due to the hot weather. This one is almost there, but it’s not quite right, I need something a little more retro.
I miss blogging! Right now I’m stuck into editing the MAYSAA magazine, but I decided to take a break to give you some long awaited pictures.
High Contrast
Monochrome Set
Grunge Style
I really should get round to doing another set of my style images, and some more hijabi sketchbook (I haven’t totally forgotten about it!) I’ve just been insanely busy with shoots. In the mean time here’s another arty image from a few weeks back x
Exciting News
I’m doing a shoot with Grazia magazine tomorrow! Hmm, nervous and excited trying to pick some awesome outfits. Scary stuff huh?
Behind The Scenes
The Independent Interview
And Shoot Preview
Was toying with the title Miss Independent, but no, here’s a quick snap taken yesterday on set at our shoot for MAYSAA magazine. There’s still time to go Friday’s copy of The Independent featuring Me and Maysaa! Had a great interview, and loved the article (in spite of the slightly dodgy photo!). More behind the scenes photos to come. I’m wearing and loving the Maysaa Bandage Waistband Jersey Maxi Skirt here, feels amazing to wear. And if you like my t-shirt check out more from this awesome tee label:
I Love Lanvin
A Beautiful Maxi Dress Moment
Lanvin Resort 2011
I think I’m in love, what with the bright head scarf and beautiful styling, mmmmm. I will try and post as much as possible this week but I think it’s going to be one of those quick posting weeks. I’m trying to get my head around styling for a shoot on the first, and trying not to psych myself out about my interview with The Independent. But I will do my best. x

Hijab Pashmina Tutorial
Short and Sweet
By Request
This is one requested by Deniz, it’s pretty much the same as the very first head scarf tutorial I did way back when. But this one is suited to any short haired ladies, or if your pashmina as short.
Off to London for a shoot and some interviews this weekend, and to meet the lovely Yuna. Here’s hoping it’s going to be a good one inshAllah!

My First Jersey Maxi Dress
Long Sleeved Love
Summer Style
I made this dress years ago and although a little worse for wear it’s still something I love wearing. It’s a bit of a jersey jilbab, great to wear over an outfit and super comfortable. And of course there is the Maysaa head scarf which I’ve worn to the side, still my favourite!
Kenzo Maxi Dresses and Head Scarves
Prints and Colour Blocking
Spring Summer 2010
Maxi dresses, head scarves, and geometric mosaic prints from a Japanese fashion house? Antonio Marras took us on a Middle Eastern adventure, not surprising as the starting point for the collection was Freya Stark, an English writer and Traveller of the Middle East. It was a tale of two parts with bright bold colour block looks preceded by beautiful printed maxi dresses and that stunning large check trench.
I love how even in the very Islamic patterns there were still elements of the Japanese aesthetic in the indigo blue and white prints. An harmonious marriage of cultures that didn’t look in the least bit contrived. Kenzo is always a go to fashion house for jilbab style maxi dresses and loose fit, so there’s not a lot more Marras could have done to speak to us ladies this Summer.
Cultural Combinations
I guess the Japanese, English, Arab mix isn’t such a strange one after all, well it is something very close to my heart. It’s rather lovely to know it can be done so beautifully too!

An Oldie…
… But a Goodie Too
Wide Leg Jeans vintage remix
Wide Leg Styles
It’s amazing what you find when digging through old files. I forgot about this little gem, so I thought I should unearth it and share it. The blazer is vintage and adds a whole new dynamic to a very simple style. This is such an easy style to customize and adapt to your style. It’s essentially just some wide-leg jeans but you can use wide leg trousers too, and a t-shirt that’s as dressed up or down as you feel.
Whaddya know, it made it on to the Chictopia style gallery:
