All The Greys
Urban Outfitters
Exeter Launch
I was very kindly invited to attend the Urban Outfitters launch in my home city, Exeter. I hadn’t thought much, other than I was curious to see what they had done with the space (which I’d not been in for years- since its past life as Topshop). But when I mentioned I was going to be there I got a completely mixed response. From people excited to know what had been going on beyond the wooden boards, to people slightly indignant that it should have arrived in our precious little city.
So it was with a little unease that we went to check it out. Unease was quickly replaced with a stunned silence as it was vast, and full of amazing fittings. Every corner of every floor is well thought out and contains many goodies (and a couple of baddies). I have always really liked their reworked vintage stuff and this was, again, great. But mostly I was just in awe at how well they had used the space.
I don’t know if the naysayers will ever see it as anything other than a subculture supermarket. It’s sort of D.I.Y. without the ‘Y’ which is still a little disconcerting. I must admit I can understand the frustration of spending hours picking around independent stores and researching to find something unique, only to find it (shelved with five other things you own) just ‘right there’. But maybe I’m picking on them for being a little too good at what they do. You’ve got to hand it to them, they do know how to make a stunning store.

Going Vintage
From The Cutting Room Floor
Some other rejects off of Hanger magazine. I’m a little short on words today as I’m sick-sick-sick-and-in-bed-and-won’t-come-out-until-I’m-better.
Maxi skirt // Maysaa (unreleased), Body // asos, Army Jacket and Jewellery // vintage.
Safiyya
Long Overdue
I was sure I’d posted this, even now I’m almost certain I did, and yet for all my searching I couldn’t find it anywhere. Seems strange that all this happened nearly a year ago. Anyhow, these were taken behind the scenes shooting for Safiyya, where- being short of another model- I was persuaded to stand alongside a stunning and tall (in comparison to me at least) professional model and pretend to know what I was doing. I was watching it air from behind a pillow, whilst being somewhat berated for my fake plastic smile. But at least the clothes looked stunning.

Hanger
And The Ones That Got Away
My very first article is in Hanger magazine A/W2011 (Out Now!), it was a pretty scary process being so in control of the content and at the same time having no control over how it was put together. I’m yet to see it in print and hold it in my hands, but I hear it’s waiting for me in my home away from home. There are (as ever) photographs that I didn’t put forward, but I still have a lot of affection for, so you’ll be slowly getting the pieces from my cutting room floor (or more accurately ‘folder’).

Why I Love
The Selby
‘The Selby’- words that fall off the tip of my tongue whenever I hear “do you know any good websites for..?” even if it’s unrelated, or not my conversation, I have been known to interject and break vows of shy silence just to share my most favourite site. I have felt utterly spoiled recently by two stunning little films, this one for Zara and the other you can find on my tumblr. How beautifully life and fashion exist within one another.
The picture stories of people in places are captivating, and anyone who likes interior design, or likes living in a building will do well to drop by. I have a desktop folder almost exclusively filled with images from here. And if not for The Selby I would never have seen this…
For more of this wonderful photo set go here now.
There is also an Edible Selby (delicious things and wonderful characters beautifully photographed) and The Selby on twitter which I avidly follow for post updates.
