Now this girl has a ton of attitude, her blog HoneyPokapoka is pretty darn awesome too.  Love the eclectic styling, and her use of colour, she’s just uberously cool. The fact she shares a love of Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and Freja Beha Erichson kinda proves my point no? p.s. I nabbed the first pic off her blog (I hope you don’t mind I just loved what you were wearing!)

For a ‘Fraidy Cat

I’m definitely not an expert on colour as you will well know by now!  So I decided to keep it simple, and opt (chicken) out by keeping it to small flourishes.  The thing that keeps it me is the mid tone grey plaid shirt, it’s basically the wearable embodiment of a security blanket.  Once again loving my MAYSAA jersey maxi skirt and chiffon head scarf.  Oh and yes I do smile… occasionally. x

This is one requested by Deniz,  it’s pretty much the same as the very first head scarf tutorial I did way back when.  But this one is suited to any short haired ladies, or if your pashmina as short.

Off to London for a shoot and some interviews this weekend, and to meet the lovely Yuna.  Here’s hoping it’s going to be a good one inshAllah!

For All My Beautiful Sisters

I hope it’s worth the wait

I know, finally, right?  Thankfully I also did a couple of other headscarf tutorials at the same time, nothing spectacular, just easy peasy styles.  I think the reason these tutorials only appear once in a blue moon (I couldn’t believe it was actually a year!)  is that I only vary my style when it happens by accident.  This hijab style was one of these very fortunate accidents, I just hope it’s not as long till my next… maybe I should just experiment, any inspiration suggestions?

Bed Head

Yes I had just rolled out of bed and into my headscarf in these pictures, which is why I’m still wearing slippers!  Ahh Paris memories, these got lost somewhere and I never got round to posting them, I love that denim shirt (even if it was bought from the mens section).

Wish I could give you more of an update on Maysaa, but giving a specific time sets me up to be inevitably wrong…. so I’m biting my tongue for now!

… And a Mini Make-Over

I was very pleasantly surprised to wake up and find myself along side Jana of Hijab Style and urban street-wear designer Sarah Elenany on the BBC world news homepage. When I did the piece I hadn’t thought it was going to be so mainstream (I did freak out slightly, watching myself on video though).

A big thanks to Shaimaa for putting it all together. There has been such an overwhelmingly good response, I can’t tell you what a difference it makes knowing there is support out there!

Behind The Scenes

It was such a long day of shooting, we really did set ourselves a challenge going for vintage. Any vintage addicts out there will know it can be so hit and miss, so to be safe I bought up a few high-street pieces. It turns out that I missed with the high-street pieces which she didn’t really like (ahh irony). I really wanted her to have something she loved, so in the end she picked out the main outfit (tunic and belt) and I styled it with a Maysaa headscarf and Made jewellery. A lot of people noticed how the outfit wasn’t reflective of my style which is true, but I think with styling it’s all about the personality of the stylee (yes… I did just make up a word).

Chic Comfort

I’m going to London for a couple of interviews (and a bit of vintage shopping), hmm what to wear?   A rather fine choice would be this Maysaa jersey maxi dress (it’s not so clear in these photos I know) comfortable but still beautiful to wear.  However it’s been shipped off for re-sampling so that’s out of the equation for now, and all I have left are these photographs… for a few weeks anyway.

Textures and Tones

Using the Maysaa head scarf and maxi skirt (coming out later on this year iA), beautiful fairtrade Made jewellery and a hat you may well recognize I toned it down with a billion year old wrap cardigan and guys t-shirt (although I may be exaggerating).  I think the sheerness of the skirt lifts it out of being too dark but given the recent weather that doesn’t seem to be a problem.  I’ll get some clearer pictures of the skirt up soon too!

Spring Style

Maysaa wide leg trousers although you can’t see them that well in this pic, vintage blazer bought in Venice a very long time ago, ‘Made’ screw necklace , and the obligatory high high heels.  Happy days!

& Long Pashmina Scarves

There’s nothing like a deconstructed denim jacket to rock out an outfit.  This particular Versace one is about 6 years old, but that’s the thing about good denim- it sure does last.  This lovely headscarf was given to me by a friend, finally a departure from the plain ones I wear!
