Mixing Styles

Sorry about my absence I was up in London feeling very guilty about not posting!  I spent yesterday looking through some stunning prints for MAYSAA, so maybe that’s why I’m on a bit of a mixed up prints kick at the moment.  If you ignore the semi-nudeness of the model you can see a beautiful mix of colour and pattern.  I love how it’s been put together, the shot, the loose styling, so beautiful.

This second shot is sans colour, but that helps bring out the textures.  I love that depth and subtle repetition of stripes.  Reminds me that next time I’m in Morocco I should stock up on scarves!

Vogue Italia Maxi Style

I’m a sucker for anything cleverly mismatched and I’m really liking this ‘dressing up box’ styling.  I think I’d refine it a little if I was going to go for this look-more street friendly.

Inspired by StyleBubble

Susie Lau from the style blog StyleBubble has the most inventive and imaginative style of any blogger I’ve come across.  I’ve been a fan since before I started blogging and she’s been a constant source of inspiration.

You have to love fashion and feel comfortable enough in your own style to stop such avant-garde pieces from wearing you, and she certainly owns her style.  If you ever look at those lists put together by fashion magazines you’re bound to find her.  She’s become something of an institution  and a huge style inspiration to many for good reason, and she was kind enough to let me do these illustrations and use her photos.  There are another two illustrations to come!

Based on the fact I’ll be working all weekend I’m hoping if I dress like I’m not it might not feel like work. Love this outfit, just add a head scarf (and maybe the trousers should be a bit looser). If only I could find a nice hat to fit my Japanese sized head.

The Inspiration

I know this campaign is quite old but looking through old magazines reminded me how much I loved it. It’s such a strong image but the quirky details make it really special. So I decided to give it the hijabi sketchbook treatment. I didn’t really have to do much, just the long sleeves and headscarf. But it makes all the difference.

Perfect Subtlety

Who knew the slightest drape could be so stunning. I love the way it seems to ripple and hangs so loosely (a great hijab feature). The raw edge detail is awesome, I am a huge fan of that juxtaposition- without which I might have passed this image over.
