It seems Bill Gaytten just can’t catch a break (that is, after catching his big Dior shaped break).  His couture collection was questionable to say the least, and like the (what looked like) huge shards of candy that adorned Dior corsets it was perhaps a little hard for the fashion press to swallow.  Never-the-less his safe-playing Fall collection went some way to appeasing disgruntled fans, at least that’s what I thought, until I saw this.

You see, whether or not it was a case of a copy-cat, you can’t help but compare.  Although actually there’s no comparison, Elbaz hands down I’m afraid Bill.  Still, it could just be me.  Ahah, this calls for a vote.

You’re gonna love me for this one, at least deflected love for Bibo Aswan as I found it posted on his wall just moments ago. If there’s a better cure for the blues than Alber Elbaz shimmying in a wide brim hat I haven’t found it yet.

I’ve put it here for easy ‘repeat’ action, as I shan’t be watching anything else for at least a week.

I love these shots, and now the desire for print and palazzo pants is overwhelming.  This is possibly a good thing, now that I’m trying my very best to acquire few but perfect items, the rest I shall make.  We’ll see how well my determination holds once I’m back in Malaysia, but as of now I’m resolute to make what I wear, and wear what I make.

It’s Not New, It’s Now

I was going through the Autumn collections from the Parisian fashion houses for a Hijab and the City article, and it got me gushing over the Lanvin show again.  To make a dress that is both structured and fluid, to use colour so understated but so intense, he designs the way I think… In contradictions and juxtaposition.  Anyway, I’m just about as ecstatic about the H+M / Lanvin collaboration as one can be.  No wonder time seems to be crawling at the moment.

Thanks to Monsieur Elbaz I’m feeling a like I want to dress a little darker, a little more grown-up, and a little wilder this winter.  A sentiment exactly reflected in the visuals of the rather wonderful (unofficial) version of Stromae’s ‘Te Quiero’ video.. Love! (also can be watched without sound to much the same effect, although I love the fact that the vocals are recorded live.)

Lanvin Resort 2011

I think I’m in love, what with the bright head scarf and beautiful styling,  mmmmm.  I will try and post as much as possible this week but I think it’s going to be one of those quick posting weeks.  I’m trying to get my head around styling for a shoot on the first, and trying not to psych myself out about my interview with The Independent.  But I will do my best. x

One Plus The Other

So I was in Spitalfields Market a little while ago where I stumbled across this awesome (and I really do mean AWESOME) t-shirt.  It’s by independent designer- though the name is escaping me at the moment, he’s South Korean with an amazing sense of style.  The first thing that came to my head was my papa, the second was Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, it’s not hard to see why!

Everything about these images are so strong.  The concept works so well, and the styling is kind of a quirky take on old hollywood glamour.  So they aren’t exactly hijab, but there is something really beautiful about the pictures.

That’s a Wrap

So I know this is from the resort collection but isn’t it beautiful, kind of abaya-esque.  I’d been looking for this image, I knew it was somewhere in my files.  Aren’t those coloured flowers just the perfect addition.

So sorry about my lack of posting, it’s all for a good cause!  The Maysaa photo shoot is coming up this Thursday and Friday and for the moment my days go something like this: Wake up, work, eat, sleep.  But I will try my best to keep on top of posting, I promise!

Lanvin Resort 2010

With the resort 2010 collections hitting the shops I thought I’d share this awesome Lanvin pair. I absolutely love the casual style and full skirts, perfect for dressing up or dressing down. The styling is gorgeous too, maybe add a colourful headscarf as a replacement for the big flowers.

Dark Matters

Back in Black

Love this look, the sheer top is beautiful and gains huge hijabi points for having a flesh tone top underneath (though it would score full marks if it was long sleeved). A great style for evening, loads of drama, the perfect remedy to a grey day is a dark night!
