My Two Loves

I’m a little obsessed with print at the moment, and as always with layering, so I was gawking in awe at Mary Katrantzou’s Fall 2011 collection.  The prints are some sort of body shaped floral magic, but for me the structure of the garments themselves are the reason for my jaw dropping.  The silhouettes, part lampshade, part dress form, are really original, and so stunning.

Her Spring/Summer collection also fed my obsession for interior design.  You’ll know what I mean if you’ve seen it.  By the by, if anyone knows of any good interior design tumblrs please let me know.

One last little thing…

I’ve been slacking lately, I’m very aware of this, and so, to my mission… I shall make a habit of blogging after breakfast, so that on days when I’m not running off to cause some sort of havoc I shall faithfully be updating.  More of my design/style/fashion commentary will be thrown onto these pages, and more personal/style/everything else will be updated on my tumblr. I shall also do my best not to suffer from over exposure.

Black to a White Wedding

So I was a little apprehensive about wearing a long sleeved, long black dress (albeit worn as a  jacket) to a summer wedding.  But after checking with my peeps on twitter I was re-assured I wasn’t committing a fashion faux pas, thanks guys!  A little white thrown in for good measure, and the loveliest shade of inky blue I’ve seen.  Those three colours are my combination du jour thanks to Tom Ford’s ‘A Single Man’ (though I watched it after this outfit choice)

I love clothes that re-invent themselves without any effort, this Maysaa maxi dress turns into the most beautiful long jacket I’ve ever worn.  I wish I’d taken some photos of me walking in it.  Ahh if you’d seen it!  It sort of billows out in a very soft but dramatic swoosh, and gently falls like water as you walk down stairs as demonstrated in the photo above.  If you’ve already bought the Kimono wrap maxi dress (a very reasonable £45) then definitely try this look out!

Hijab Outfit Trials

This is the oversized t-shirt I customized a while back, I am a sucker for a comfortable outfit so this was a winner for me.  Just dress it up with some heels if you want to make it dressier, or throw on a shrunken leather jacket for some edge.

I finally got my Canon 500D and it’s beautiful. Hopefully this means many more modest style photos for you guys to enjoy! I’ll try to keep it with me wherever I am in case I see a moment of inspiration.

Relaxed Casual Style

Yes she’s beautiful, but she’s also understated. Whether in sweats or a stunning maxi dress she knows how to dress stylishly casual. The key to her style is a simple outfit plus a pashmina scarf and oversized sunglasses. Hijabis will have no shortage of pashminas so adopting her laid back style will be easy. Maybe just swap the maxi dress with a simple black abaya or cover up with a cardigan.

So whether you love or loathe her style, there are certain tricks she uses that can be adapted to suit your own style.

Peeling Back the Layers

This outfit has a lot of layers, having said that it was actually quite cool to wear. I have a bit of a layering obsession, and I think the trick is to choose clothes that will overlap as little as possible e.g. short sleeves and open fronts P.S. I was a bit obsessed with my new converse that day, is it that obvious?
