The great thing about this jersey maxi dress is that it’s not too clingy, it can be done! I always try and cover up the straps at the top (I think I have a thing about it not layering well). Then I gravitated towards one of my favourite items in my wardrobe a stunning feathered waistcoat. I think it was made in Japan by a family friend. I just think it’s beautiful.

Love In Layers

For me as a Muslim wearing polo-necks is a lot like wearing underwear; it’s just what you do. Even in Spring and Summer I never go that many days without reaching for my trusty jersey polo-neck. But when it comes to winter it becomes a second skin, almost every outfit starts with a polo base. It’s tough to think of anything more versatile, and this Autumn designers have given it a new lease of life and a well deserved turn in the spotlight!

Time for the modest style trend that can work wonders for Hijabi girls. If you saw the previous post and thought ‘I love the look, but it’s a bit tame’ then this post is just for you! If you’re still working out how to pull off the look then these designers give a whole lot of inspiration. Check out the upside-down tiers from Kai Kühne!

Trend Setters

Us Muslimah’s may have worn tiers without ever realising it. It’s just layering that has been done for you, instead of wearing a top over a skirt over trousers you can rock the layered look with one tiered maxi dress, tunic or skirt. The best thing is that even if you add more layers (to lengthen a skirt or dress) it will look seamless. Just choose colours in the same palette or go for contrast like the Roksanda Ilincic maxi dress above, then top it all off with a headscarf.

Style with substance

The beautiful Muslimah style gowns from La Perla. I’m kind of breaking with tradition by posting 3 dresses but I really couldn’t choose between them. I’ve loved La Perla maxi dresses for as long as I’ve loved Islamic fashion because so much of their stuff is translatable to hijab. You may remember another La Perla gown featuring here a few weeks back. Long floaty dresses seem to be a speciality with loose shapes and the most luxurious fabrics.

With something behind the lace it would be the perfect Muslimah L.B.D. (long black dress)

Fashion Japan Style

I love looking through Japanese Fashion Magazines, for a Muslimah there are a lot of ideas that can translate well. No surprise then that I’m excited to share with you what I found. This Japanese Magazine was brought back by my Dad and step Mum from their recent trip, well chosen by my ‘Japan fashion correspondent’ Miya (my lovely sister). I was going to wait till I uploaded them all to post them up, but I couldn’t wait to show you!

I love the contrast of the boxy grey blazer and the frilly loose floral tunic, and that long skirt is stunning! I want it!

Magazines- East vs. West

I think there were even more inspirational images in this magazine than there were in the last one I featured, I love how fashion magazines in Japan feature so many outfits. Every page is filled with different combinations, a contrast in style to the Western mags who tend to feature just one, or a few key pieces.

With all these outfits you only need a few tweaks to get them right for a hijabi. A jacket or cardigan over the maxi dress, some wide leg jeans under the floral tunic (with the jacket sleeves rolled down) and some long sleeves with the skirt. Not forgetting the headscarf of course!

I’ll be posting some more Japanese style features soon enough which is good news if like me you love the fresh but quirky style of the Japanese girls! I think when it comes to non Muslim countries no-one else pulls off modest fashion in such an interesting way. But then again I’m probably biased ! I’d love to see the modest style of other countries though, if you have any photos send them in and I’ll do a post about modesty across the globe!

I absolutely love this Moschino maxi dress, it’s that kind of effortless chic that makes this perfect. The modest colour and loose shape definitely relate to Muslimah Fashion, I even this sleeves would work under this asymmetric design. Hmm, now about those bunnies….
