Without Burning Up

When Paris was sunny and cold, perfect jacket weather.  You know I was once told that buying jackets was fruitless, it’s either raining or sunny (in the UK that is), I had thought there was some truth to that, but a few years of ever-changing weather taught me that them there were lies.  A jacket, especially a lightweight one, is like a good shirt or cardigan, but better in that it adds structure without the bulk.  I’m sure a billion people have this exact same H+M jacket thanks to my friend/foe consumerism, but it is a good case in point.  I made the mistake of not bringing any jackets over here to Malaysia, in fact I’ve become further entrenched in the pro-jacket camp because I think a good jacket can weather any climate.*

Dans Paris

Recently I’ve had such a urge to get on the Eurostar and walk around Paris for a few hours, get lost, get cold.  And although I know this is not a fashion post, it was just so beautiful.  I hope you don’t mind to see the thoughts in my mind maintenant.

Paris Story

My latest article for Hijab and the City has just been published here.  It’s all about what to wear this Autumn from a decidedly Parisian perspective.  Now that Autumn has decided to hide away I feel a bit silly talking about how to wear a cape over a jacket over a shirt, but such is the unpredictable nature of British weather.  I hope you enjoy!

Seeing double

Had much fun playing with reflections, I love going to a new space finding interesting ways to shoot.  I’ll show you some (not so fashion related) photos from Paris aussi soon.  Did manage an afternoon of down time whilst I was there for fabric selection.

I’m leaving for Paris in the morning, almost finished packing but I had to make time to show you these beautiful photographs taken by my little sister Miya. She has just come back from Paris and after seeing her pictures I was so excited to go, so I thought I’d share them with you. Enjoy! I don’t think I can quite explain just how much I love them.

Smart Casual

So I did actually do some work in Paris, this was taken outside the fabric fair. Comfort was definitely an important factor here, I’m pretty sure the reason I’m smiling is at the prospect of actually sitting down on the metro.

The Verdict

It was my first time wearing this outfit. I bought the trousers (Zara) a little while ago and wasn’t really sure how they would look. I have to say I now officially love harem pants. They are so easy to wear, especially in the city. I don’t know why but I always feel trousers are more practical when I’m doing a lot of walking. I can’t actually think of any good reason why except for the ‘gust of wind’ factor that any hijabi in a maxi skirt will be aware of!

There will inshAllah be a super comfy pair of harem pants in the MAYSAA collection, I should be getting the factory sample any time now, exciting!

More From Paris

I know I look pretty gormless here, but never mind. This outfit was thankfully very comfortable, all except for the shoes actually- one shoe was too small and I didn’t bring another pair (unless you count stilettos). We had a full day at the show which meant a full day of walking around… Maybe that explains the expression.

You may know I went to Paris recently on business, it was amazing (but hectic). And I didn’t forget to take photos of my outfits, much to the annoyance of my hubby! Every time we reached the door of the flat I would stop, remember and then get him to take a photo. It wouldn’t have been so bad but it was quite a few flights of a spiral staircase to get there; tired and dizzy does not a happy photographer make.
