I hope you are all happy in the newness of another year.  As timezones catch up and we’re all stood in January feeling a little perplexed that a year of much goings on has lost out to a year where anything could happen.  MAYSAA has some newness that is slightly alluded to in this picture, though more shall be revealed soon. Resolutions or not, this year, stuff will happen people!

I love these shots, and now the desire for print and palazzo pants is overwhelming.  This is possibly a good thing, now that I’m trying my very best to acquire few but perfect items, the rest I shall make.  We’ll see how well my determination holds once I’m back in Malaysia, but as of now I’m resolute to make what I wear, and wear what I make.

In Colour and Print

I would dress something like this way if I had the wardrobe to match, which would be ok if I had the wallet to match, which is why it shall stay wishful thinking for now.  So this is what my thought bubble would look like right now. I’m kind of obsessed with mood boards at the moment, and these are some of my favourite things dragged onto my desktop from various internet places including The Selby (The embroidered shorts), my most favourite site right now. And a beautiful editorial shot by Lara Jade (the headdresses) she’s beyond talented that girl, so pleased we got to work together.

I want this dress badly! So I am aware that on closer inspection the print is somewhat illuminati-esque in design, but that aside, I want this dress!  So pretty, so grunge, in fact, if we’re talking unrealistic acquisitions I think I want those clogs too!

Dressing Like A Hijabi

While these layered looks may not be favoured by the main stream I think there is a great deal of inspiration for us hijabis. It’s hard to be covered head to toe and still look casual, and harder still to find trousers that will do the job. So the answer is something we’ve been doing for a while; layer it up with a tunic or mid length dress.

Boy meets Girl

For Cavalli as well as the masc/fem blazer and florals combinations there were some more refined looks to be had. I love the idea of wearing a wrap dress opened up under a long trench or tailored jacket, something I think many of us could rustle up out of our own wardrobes.

Ombre

Ombre is a trend I absolutely love. It’s been around for quite a while, popping up in some stunning collections- Alexander McQueen Spring 2008, Alberta Ferretti Fall 2007 to name just a couple. For Spring Summer 2009 it was a feature for quite a few designers, most notably in Burberry Prorsum. The choice of colour and texture helped to set it apart from other collections and made it a definite reinvention of ombre. I did go a little overboard with all this, sorry for all the bytes of dip dyed fashion but I think it’s worth it.
