I’ve kept you waiting more than long enough, so here it is, the Hana Tajima style scarf tutorial.  The video was shot, edited and directed by uber creative Ahmad Faris of IkanPaos Collective.  And the soundtrack is Lady Daydream by Twin Sister (there’s an awesome acoustic version of it here)

The Scarf

• An off-cut of lightweight silk satin
• width: 60cm / length: 90cm  although ideally I’d say width: 70cm / length 100cm
• All the edges are raw, the front edge (i.e. the visible one) is the selvedge
• The other edges may start to fray at first, but after it’s been washed a couple of times, and you’ve let the threads come out it should stop.  I quite like the unfinished look, but if you really can’t stand it then you can always hem it.

An Intro to MAYSAA

This is just so so freakin cool.  For the most part because of all the talent involved in putting it together, but also because it captures those moments that would otherwise be lost.  I’ve never seen myself working or walking, and I can almost feel each step and breath that I took, and the culmination of all those things in the event.  I’m even starting to like the fact that my face looks tired, it reminds me how I would only sleep half an hour each night just to get things right.  It’s proof to myself just how much I care about what I do, and just how much this means to me.  I was running on passion and the support of others.  So to anyone who gave kind words, on twitter or facebook, and to those around me, and those who couldn’t be.. thank you. x

The Video

So you’ve waited long enough for this, or I should rather say, It’s late enough, and I’m sleep deprived enough to think posting this is a good idea.  I guess you know I have an obsession with reworking my clothes and in particular my own designs.  I must admit, the subconscious designer in me has a talent for making a design lovely to play around with, I should write her a note of thanks. (oh and again you can watch it without the sound, if music ain’t your thing)

The wondrous star that is the dress is the Maysaa Kimono Wrap Maxi Dress, the top is Uniqlo (but of course), and the trousers (which I now live in) are soon to be available at Maysaa.

I really should befriend a film maker to make these with me… in the hope that I’d look less insane.

Hello Twitter

In case you missed it, this is what you get for following me on twitter, lots of presents!  Though that may not exactly be a good thing.  But hey ho, I only meant to make you smile and I was very happy to find that it worked.  Hard to tell if you were laughing at me or with me, hmm, I guess as long as you’re laughing right?

It’s not totally random, I mean, they were basically clips of me messing around trying to shoot a video tutorial on ways to wear the Maysaa kimono wrap maxi dress.  Though I have to admit, the real video is only slightly less weird than this one.  xx

Le Bel Eté

Fashion videos seem the done thing to do these days, and when done wonderfully, they can be wonderful!  I’ve fallen in love with the loose cuts and maxi skirts (and slightly with Lou Doillon) you get such a sense of movement.  As a designer I get it, the thing of being able to show the details in a way photos just can’t.

I hope it’s worth the wait

I know, finally, right?  Thankfully I also did a couple of other headscarf tutorials at the same time, nothing spectacular, just easy peasy styles.  I think the reason these tutorials only appear once in a blue moon (I couldn’t believe it was actually a year!)  is that I only vary my style when it happens by accident.  This hijab style was one of these very fortunate accidents, I just hope it’s not as long till my next… maybe I should just experiment, any inspiration suggestions?

As requested I made a video tutorial of my everday hijab style. As far as headscarves go this is a very simple style and super quick. I actually had to rush out after making the video and I managed to do the style in under a minute. It’s probably why I like the style so much, any scarf style I do that takes a while I tend to phase out very quickly… not that I’m lazy or anything

I’m definitely no Madiha! And I apologize for all the “umm’s,” I didn’t realise how much I said it until I watched it back! Maybe forgive me on account of nervousness? I hope it explains everything, if you have any questions or want me to clear things up then leave comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.

A few of you lovely ladies have asked me to do a ‘how-to’ on my headscarf style. InshAllah I promise you I will get round to it as soon as I can, trying to figure out which is better video or step by step photos? Any suggestions?
