Denim and White

Ah simple things, those of you who know my archives will recognize this as being from an old set of photos.  I really like the colouring in this image even though it was done on my old Panasonic Lumix it’s still got a lovely feel.  These jeans are quite awesome, they’re super wide leg and lightweight nothing like regular jeans.  Quite perfect for summer, although whether I can find them in the depths of my wardrobe is another matter!

Wide Leg Styles

It’s amazing what you find when digging through old files.  I forgot about this little gem, so I thought I should unearth it and share it.  The blazer is vintage and adds a whole new dynamic to a very simple style.  This is such an easy style to customize and adapt to your style.  It’s essentially just some wide-leg jeans but you can use wide leg trousers too, and a t-shirt that’s as dressed up or down as you feel.

Hijab Outfit Trials

This is the oversized t-shirt I customized a while back, I am a sucker for a comfortable outfit so this was a winner for me.  Just dress it up with some heels if you want to make it dressier, or throw on a shrunken leather jacket for some edge.

Pictures From Paris

These are a couple of my Paris pictures, I know it’s rather surprising to see me in bright colour.  When I chose this outfit I didn’t realise quite how much fluff the cardigan would leave on my jeans.  So I had to put away my bright cardigan for another day, and another outfit, at least I managed to snap these before the evidence was lost forever!

It’s not as hard as I thought it would be to make a full on denim look work. A plain white tee is the key to breaking it all up, that and a few well chosen accessories. Ah yes you may have spotted my favourite waistcoat, well you can expect a few more- I just can’t resist it’s pull.

A Little Help

I’m thinking about having more of my own outfits and images and less of the more generic designer posts.  I’m thinking I’ll concentrate on the sketches, modest maxi dresses, inspiring magazine editorials and a lot more photos like these (the ones above).  What do you reckon?

Hijab Style

This is a post for Uzz who is looking for alternatives to heels with jeans. She described her style as “…a little tomboyish but with a feminine twist.” which is perfect for me because it’s what I love! So here are three options to work with.

Kitten Heels and Boyfriend Jeans

Option 1

For loose jeans you’ve got a couple of options, wide leg flares or slouchy boyfriend style denim. I quite like putting together quite a masculine look with really feminine details so the kitten heels work very well indeed.

Flats and denim

Option 2

Ballet pump style flats are a life saver when it comes to being on your feet all day. These moccasin style ones work well with almost any outfit, they’re smart enough for most occasions but if you want a bit more glamour then go for ballet pumps.

Converse and Jeans

Option 3

Possibly my favourite shoes, there’s not much I don’t wear them with. But they do go rather well with slouchy wide-leg jeans, and give an edgy casual look. Maybe I’m biased but out of the three I thought I saved the best till last.

Feeling All Bluesy

I’m always drawn to blues and greys (as somebody quite rightly pointed out!). This shirt, which cost me about £2 at a charity (or thrift) shop is one of my go-to pieces at the moment you can use them to cover up all sorts of tight areas. So throw on something loose, it will give you understated casual style in a very comfortable package!

The Dress

So maybe not modest as worn on the model, but perfect if you throw on some super wide leg trousers, long sleeved top and a headscarf.

The Tunic Top and Jacket

A great bit of glam to add to an outfit, great with a maxi skirt and cardi, or some wide leg jeans and long jacket. Nice and loose but still feminine and smart. The jacket will lend a great edge to any outfit, retro chic!

The Long Sleeved Fringe Dress

Throw on a headscarf and a maxi skirt or wide leg jeans for a casual party look. The fringe may be a little much, but if you wear it with similar colour trousers it should tone it down some.

Oh and All The Shoes

With sandals and boots there are plenty of styles to choose from, I love the black sandals above!

Modest Day Wear

For day wear go for her choice of wide leg jeans or soft tailored wide leg trousers (rather those super skinny leggings). Team it with a soft shirt, loose sweater or a simple t-shirt. Even if it’s not long sleeved you can do like she does and cover it over with a lightweight jacket or pretty cardigan. Maxi Dress Glamour

For a special occasion, or those times when you want to feel fancy the quickest course to modest elegance is with a maxi dress or abaya. With an abaya you can dress it up with a statement cropped jacket (something with structure). For the maxi dress choose a simple blazer or bolero. The base should be pretty simple, Palermo tends to start with a simple elegant base and builds it up with the accessories. I’m not talking lots of bling, just one key necklace or bracelet and of course a beautiful bag.

Style Analysis

In terms of her style, she loves draping with jersey or chiffon. In the evening she adds sparkle with… well sparkle, sequins or satin- but it’s never top to toe, just accenting the outfit. She does go for bold prints but doesn’t really mix them, instead, if she goes bold with the print she minimizes the accessories and tones down the extras. The key is in the detailing, little things like bows, belts, texture and fringing details make the look interesting without being a slave to trends.

In a sentence: Keep a simple basic outfit, experiment with statement jackets and jewellery and top it off with a big funky bag.
